Ghostbusters week: Peter Venkman

Back when the original "Ghostbusters" was released in 1984, Bill Murray was at the height of his game. The Saturday Night Live alum was scoring big with audiences and at the box office. Murray's comedic skills were as obvious as a 100-foot marshmallow man stumbling through New York.

Early word on the new female-led "Ghostbusters" film from "Bridesmaids" director Paul Feig has been promising. The possibility of a new generation of fans who ain't afraid of no ghost like those of us who were awed by the original film is exciting. And as we charge up our proton packs for the new flick's release this Friday, let's take a peek at some collectibles based on the character Murray brought to life: Peter Venkman.

Peter Venkman figure, Mattel/Matty Collector (2010)

Matty Collector from Mattel has solidified itself as a top-tier producer of action figures for the adult collector. The company has offered up a wealth of great releases from franchises like Masters of the Universe, the DC Universe and Ghostbusters. This is one of several 6" versions they did of Peter Venkman (look out for a slimed version). Can go for about $35-$45 on the secondary market.

Hollywood Collectibles Group makes high-end statues and prop replicas based on a variety of properties, from Edward Scissorhands and Sin City to Aliens and Ghostbusters. This 1:4 scale statue of Peter Venkman bares an uncanny resemblance to actor Bill Murray. The sculpture stands 19" tall and is limited to 1,000 pieces, but it'll set you back about $400. Available for pre-order on the Hollywood Collectibles Group website.

Peter Venkman and Slimer Exclusive Pop! Vinyl two-pack, Funko (2014)
Peter Venkman and Slimer Pop! Vinyl two-pack from Funko
The Slimer and Peter Venkman Pop! Vinyl figures from Funko are fun enough on their own, but pack these two together for a "slimed" Ghostbusters 30th anniversary Comic Con exclusive, and everyone's a winner. This two-pack is getting harder and harder to track down and can go for about $150 on the secondary market.

Peter Venkman Screen Print by Jason Edmiston (2014)

As noted in Monday's post, this awesome print was part of Gallery 1988's Ghostbusters tribute and serves as something of a compendium piece to Edmiston's Slimer print. The long-sold-out Venkman print will run you well over $100 -- if you can find one.

Charge on back here tomorrow as we haunt our way through the rest of Ghostbusters week. The new Ghostbusters film opens wide July 15.
