Ghosts and ghouls: Eric Powell's The Goon

Another key series in the not-quite-mainstream group of titles that have hit a chord with so many, is Eric Powell's classic The Goon.
The Goon is something between Popeye and Tales from the Crypt, and it's unmistakable style has made it a pop-culture revelation since it's earliest concept back in 1995.
Here are some kick-ass Goon collectibles.

Avatar Illustrated (1998)
Avatar Illustrated 1998
The Goon debuts in a cameo 1-page preview. Hard to find but sometimes will show up on eBay in the $75+ range.

The Goon #1 by Avatar Press (1999)
The Goon #1 by Avatar Press
The first official issue of The Goon. Powell only did three issues for Avatar before The Goon lingered a bit and was eventually picked up by Dark Horse where it flourished. This issue is more sought-after than the Avatar Illustrated and demands a higher price, often eclipsing $150 on eBay.

The Goon figure by Mezco Toys (2005)
The Goon figure by Mezco Toys
Mezco Toys produced four characters from The Goon series as action figures back in 2005. The Goon is hard to find and demands big bucks on the secondary market, usually upwards of $100.

The Goon statue by Bowen Designs (2007)
The Goon statue by Bowen Designs
Bowen Designs again, simply because the statues are that good; including this fantastic rendition of The Goon that stands 12" high and was limited to just 500 pieces. Can be found on eBay or sometimes at a toy show for around $200.

That's all for our indie spotlight this week, join us tomorrow as we continue our love for Gene Wilder into Top 10 Friday.
