Football by McFarlane: The Denver Broncos

Most pop culture fans know the name Todd McFarlane. The Canadian artist and businessman rose to fame with his stylish pencils in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man, Spider-Man and Spawn, among others. McFarlane's work in the Spider-Man books in the late 1980s and early '90s might be the very best in the storied history of Spidey comics.

Not long after McFarlane made his mark as an artist he launched McFarlane Toys and has gone on to produce a wealth of excellent, detailed collectible figures. And Mr. McFarlane being the sports fan that he is, a healthy number of those figures are based on professional athletes. The NFL officially kicked off this past weekend and, as always, it started with a bang (anyone see that Raiders/Saints game...? Wowza.). So we're gonna open the McFarlane playbook all week and take a look at some of the best McFarlane NFL figures available. Let's start the opening drive by looking at last year's Super Bowl champs, the Denver Broncos.

Another Hall of Famer comes to life in the form of Broncos record-breaking tight end Shannon Sharpe. The figure comes in two versions, modern blue and throwback "Orange Crush," both of which can be caught on the secondary for about $40-$50 apiece.

What's better than one collectible figure? Why two of course! Score a pair with this showdown between Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey and Dolphins linebacker Zach Thomas. The two-pack will cost you about $30-$40 online or at a toy show/comic shop.
