Suicide Squad week: Harley Quinn

Well, jeez Mister J, if it isn't one of the most popular female characters of the past 20 years set to make her live-action debut! That's right folks, the indelible Harley Quinn busts onto the big-screen scene this Friday in "Suicide Squad." Quinn was first introduced on the small screen back in 1992 in an episode of "Batman: The Animated Series," marking one of the few times a comic book character's first appearance didn't actually take place in the pages of a comic book. But Quinn broke into the comic book world the following year and then really made her presence known in the late '90s.

Walking through the halls of a comic book convention pretty much anywhere and one will learn very quickly just how popular Ms. Quinn really is. She has something of a Deadpool-esque cult following, big shoes to fill for "Wolf of Wall Street" actress Margot Robbie. Regardless of how the film fares once it opens this Friday, Quinn's popularity is already well established. Which means there are plenty of Harley Quinn collectibles available to her rabid fans. Here are a few.

The Batman Adventures #12 (1993) and Batman: Harley Quinn #1 (1999), DC Comics

Harley Quinn made her first official comic book appearance in the now highly collectible The Batman Adventures #12. She was officially introduced into the mainstream DC Comics continuity with the fantastic one shot Batman: Harley Quinn #1, featuring a cover by acclaimed artist Alex Ross. Both issues are valuable and fairly rare, with Batman Adventures #12 running about $400-$500 ungraded, and Batman: Harley Quinn #1 going for closer to $100-$200. Die hard Quinn fans should make an effort to acquire both issues.
